Background
Michael O'Brien is a Portfolio Manager for the Hartford Schroders International Multi-Cap Value Fund. He is responsible for enhancing the Quantitative Equity Products models and explaining our investment approach to our clients. Michael moved to the New York office in January 2014 from the Schroder Investment Management Australia Limited Sydney office which he joined in 2008. While based in Sydney he was focused on enhancing QEP’s stock selection models and implementing research ideas into the investment process.
Prior to joining Schroders, Michael worked for the University of Queensland and University of Sydney for 4 years in a research and teaching position. This research focused on Asset Pricing models and the influence of size, value and momentum factors on investment outcomes and lead to the publication of several papers in international finance journals. In addition Michael co-founded and developed an accounting database that stored annual report information of Australian stocks from 1981 to 2010 that is in the process of being sold to Sirca, a research institute and data provider in Australia.
He holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Queensland, BComm (Hons) in Finance & Economics and a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Sydney.
