One-third: That’s about how much international developed markets (IDM) represent in the equity universe. IDM also account for about 20% of global GDP. Yet the typical US investor’s portfolio has only 15% international exposure.1
We believe there are benefits to investing internationally that justify higher allocations than the current average. But the way to increase investor comfort with international exposure may not be just to allocate more of a portfolio outside the US, but rather to allocate to international equities more intentionally.
