Four Investment Ideas for a Siloed World

November 2018

The natural response to complexity and information-overload is to organize the world into frameworks, which can obscure the view of investment opportunities that cut across them.

The world is complex and becoming more so at a rapid rate. One of the sources of that complexity is interconnectivity. We experience it on a personal level. Thanks to social media, we are vastly more connected to one another than we were a decade ago. That creates wonderful opportunities—to see your cousin’s new cat, for example—but it also leaves us awash in information, with little sense of what to do with it all.

How can investors seek to exploit the opportunities that those frameworks might miss?

1. Create an opportunistic investment bucket

2. Consider disciplined thematic approaches

3. Use a different lens

4. Apply portable alpha

Important Risks: Investing involves risk, including the possible loss of principal.
