Run With the Right Team, so You’ll Never Walk Alone

March 2020
by Michael Lynch

Take a minute to think about the team you have in place. How strongly positioned are you? Are there any gaps, any areas that may need guidance, any additions needed to your team?

YNWA, a popular acronym, stands for “You’ll Never Walk Alone”. It is also the motto of the Liverpool Football Club, and is a song sung by every Liverpool supporter at the beginning of each match. It reminds the players, coaches, management, staff, and supporters that you are not alone, and we are all in this together.

There is no better motto to have right now. Very few of us walk alone. We have a supporting team all around us. Partners, spouses, friends, family, even pets, etc. A team that supports us. One that lifts our spirits, keeps us humble, focused, and on track.

Think of your professional team. Who is part of your team? If you have strayed off course recently, maybe now is the time to get reenergized and refocused. Consider selecting the following as core members of your team:

1. A financial advisor

Appoint an advisor that understands the financial, but also non-financial, aspects of retirement. One who educates, listens, and understands. One who now, more than ever, will be a key part of your team and can contribute to your overall success.

2. A tax professional

Choose a tax professional that communicates and works with your advisor to ensure you are doing all that you can in the most efficient way possible. You want to ensure this person is knowledgeable, helpful, and responsive. Someone that is both skilled in their profession, and trusted as a friend.

3. A legal expert

Research and carefully select a legal expert to join your team. Understanding the need for trusts, estate planning, and other needs clients may have is so important now, and for helping to plan for their future.

Work together to build the best team possible. One that is reflective of you as a professional and what you want to represent, so as we emerge out of our “lockdown” we are well positioned for success. And most importantly, always remember, YNWA.
